The Turing Scheme
The new Turing Scheme is a UK Government £100-million investment programme managed by the Department for Education (DfE) that funds international study and work placements, supporting skills development, employability, cultural understanding and social mobility.
Eligible Organisations
The scheme is open to universities, higher, further and vocational education facilities and primary and secondary schools registered in the UK or British Overseas Territory, and FE consortiums, provided they are financially viable and responsible for delivering education or training to participating students.
Suitable Projects
The grants are designed to go towards the administrative, travel and living expenses incurred with foreign exchanges and placements. Funded projects can include short-term placements lasting from 3 days up to 2 months for pupils of any age, and long-term placements lasting 2 to 6 months for students aged 14 and over, supporting study or work placements abroad.
Application Process
Applications can be made online. Education providers apply through one of three routes (schools, FE or HE). Students cannot apply directly and must participate via an eligible provider or consortium.
Important Dates
Applications for the 2025 to 2026 academic year have now closed, with outcomes communicated to applicants in June 2025. Funding awarded must be used within the relevant academic year and cannot be rolled over. You’ll have to check the website often for the next academic year (2026 to 2027).
Funding Range
For schools, funding includes £315 per participant for the first 100 participants in a project and £180 per participant thereafter, with rates varying by sector, destination country, placement length and student circumstances.
