The Royal Institution: Science in Schools

Don’t miss out on a fully funded visit from a Royal Institution science presenter worth £800. The Science in Schools grant provides professional-led science performances and training designed to enrich pupils’ science education, support teachers’ CPD, engage families, and help schools raise additional funds.

Eligible Organisations

Both primary and secondary schools and academies may apply for the Science in Schools grant, though they must be state-funded, and demonstrate that pupils would not otherwise have access to opportunities such as this. The application must be completed by someone who is involved in teaching a STEM subject at the school. Priority is given to disadvantaged schools, and shows can be adapted for pupils aged 4–7, 7–11, or 11–14 anywhere in the UK.

Suitable Projects

This grant funds a ‘Science in Schools’ day led by the Royal Institution. Schools can choose from three shows, including ‘Energy Live!’, ‘Explosive food’ and ‘Feel the power’. Projects should aim to increase science engagement among pupils, enhance teacher professional development in STEM, and involve families and the wider community in science learning.

Application Process

Applications are completed online.

Important Dates

The scheme is awarded annually, and applications are currently closed. Schools can also register their interest to be notified when applications reopen.
