The Rowing Foundation Grant
The Rowing Foundation aims to support young people (those under 18 or in full-time education) and disabled people of all ages, to participate in rowing activities. It provides grants towards the cost of boat equipment or boat refurbishments to support junior & student rowers, and adaptive rowing for all ages. The funding is for public benefit, non-elitist projects that encourage broader participation in rowing.
Eligible Organisations
Organisations and clubs who are involved in on-water elements of the sport of rowing and are individually affiliated to British Rowing are eligible to apply. This includes rowing clubs, centres, and educational establishments across the UK. Most grants go to UK Rowing Clubs, but other organisations involved in “on water rowing-type” activities may also apply.
Suitable Projects
The Foundation favours giving grants for equipment which will be used on the water and exclusively for juniors and the disabled of all ages. This includes boats, sculls, oars, riggers, essential safety equipment, rowing machines (ergometers), or boat refurbishments.
Projects should have a specific purpose, like enabling a Learn To Row course or providing adaptive rowing equipment.
Application Process
To apply for a grant from The Rowing Foundation, an online form must be completed. Applicants may need to provide recent accounts, a quote for the equipment or refurbishment, and confirmation that they can meet their share of the costs.
Refurbishment grants require a handwritten letter of support from a junior/student/adaptive rower.
Important Dates
The next deadline is Noon on Monday 2 February 2026 for Equipment Grants. Refurbishment Grants are awarded on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Trustees meet three times per year to review applications.
Funding Range
The funding range is between £500–£4,000, typically covering up to 50% of the total project costs. Grants may be aggregated up to a total of £4,000 per club/organisation across any five-year period.
