The Hellenic Society

The Society offers grants to support schools, universities, undergraduates, graduate students, and young researchers engaged in Hellenic Studies, encouraging the teaching and study of Greek language, literature, and culture.

Eligible Organisations

There are grants available to schools, institutions, and individuals. Undergraduates, graduate students, and young researchers in Hellenic Studies are also eligible, and applicants for individual grants must be members of the Hellenic Society.

Suitable Projects

Schools can apply for funding for:

  • Developing new courses in Greek
  • Teaching resources and books
  • Classic days and conferences
  • Greek plays

Funding can also support summer schools, student fieldwork bursaries, Hellenic events, productions of Greek drama, and travel and accommodation costs for graduate students or young scholars visiting London libraries under the Dover Fund.

Application Process

You can download an application form online. Applications are considered by the Council one month after submission. May applications are reviewed in June for events from 1 July onwards, and October applications are reviewed in November for events from 1 January onwards. 

Important Dates

There are two deadlines each year: 1st May and 1st October.

Funding Range

Grants are usually between £100 and £500 but larger amounts are sometimes awarded. The Dover Fund provides grants ranging from £50 to £400, and larger institutional or individual grants may be considered depending on the project.
