The Hargreaves Foundation

The foundation is a charitable grant-making organisation established in 2020 by Peter Hargreaves and his family, supporting children and young people under the age of 18 who are living with mental health problems, physical disabilities, or experiencing poverty through sport and educational activities.

Eligible Organisations

Eligible organisations include Registered Charities or Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs), schools and further education colleges (usually exempt charities), and NHS Trusts operating within the United Kingdom.

Suitable Projects

All requests must fit in with the foundation’s objective and must address at least one of the following:

  • Enables individuals to experience mental and physical benefits of sports
  • Ensures participatory sport is accessible
  • Provides sporting or educational activities that foster life skills
  • Aims to improve academic engagement and attainment
  • Encourages the development of skills and personal attributes to aid future employability

Projects must support children and young people under 18 and deliver direct and tangible benefits.

Application Process

Only the online application form is accepted and it cannot be saved, so applicants are advised to prepare responses separately before submitting. Applications are reviewed in the month following submission, acknowledged at that stage, and applicants receive an update after the initial screening.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed monthly following submission.

Funding Range

The Trustees aim to distribute the Foundation’s annual income, anticipated to be in the region of £2,000,000 per annum, and funding is provided only for clearly defined projects, initiatives, or specific item purchases.
