The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund
The Baily Thomas Charitable General Programme funding is now open to organisations that support people with learning disabilities through research and/or care. The Fund operates across the United Kingdom and provides support through both small and general grant programmes, covering specific projects as well as ongoing operational needs.
Eligible Organisations
This funding is available to organisations that aim to aid research into learning disability and/or aid the care of those affected by a learning disability. Eligible applicants include schools, Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), voluntary organisations, registered charities, and organisations associated with a registered charity.
A clear definition of a learning disability can be found on their website.
Suitable Projects
The grants can be used to purchase equipment, cover staff costs, for capital work, and general running costs. They can also be used to fund community and employment schemes, social activities, and respite for families.
Application Process
All applications must be submitted via the online application form; small grant applications are reviewed by the Chair of Trustees on a rolling basis, while larger grant applications are reviewed at trustee meetings.
Organisations may normally only apply once every two years following a successful application (one year if unsuccessful), and only one application per organisation will be considered at any one meeting.
Important Dates
For grants of £9,000 and above, deadlines are 31 December for the March meeting, 31 March for the June meeting, and 31 August for the November meeting. The deadline for consideration at the March 2026 meeting is 31 December 2025.
Small grant applications can be submitted at any time and are usually reviewed monthly.
Funding Range
Grant amounts range from £250 upwards, with small grants of up to £5,000 and general grants for requests of £9,000 and above, depending on project needs, total funding requirements, and availability of other funding sources.
