Eligible Organisations

Schools groups and voluntary youth groups in the UK are eligible to apply.

Suitable Projects

The fund is designed to enable disadvantaged young people (aged between 4 and 18 years) to attend a course held at a Field Studies Council location. They could be disadvantaged in terms of their health, mobility, geographic deprivation, or family income. The courses include non-curriculum days and residential courses, with a focus on environmental education, outdoor learning, team-building activities, and hands-on nature-based experiences delivered at FSC residential or day centres.

Application Process

There is an application form available to download from the Field Studies Council website, with applications accepted during specified application windows and assessed by the Field Studies Council, whose decisions are final. Applications may close early if demand exceeds available funding.

Important Dates

Applications for the Grants for Schools programme are currently paused while further funding is secured. For 2025, applications were open from 19 May 2025 and closed on 25 May 2025.

Funding Range

Up to 80% of course fees at a Field Studies Council location are funded, including food and accommodation costs, although funding typically covers up to 75% of course costs.

Support can include grants of up to £225 per student for a 3-day, 2-night residential, up to £35 per student for a day visit, and discretionary transport grants of up to £500 per school, subject to eligibility and available funding.
