Japan Society

The small grants programme funds small-scale educational activities and events that focus on Japan and Japanese culture in the UK.

Eligible Organisations

UK-based organisations and individuals are welcome to apply, including schools and other educational institutions. Eligible applicants also include grassroots organisers involved in cultural projects, with projects that can take place in regional areas.

Suitable Projects

Projects should enhance understanding and awareness of Japan and its culture. They should be educational and involve the wider community if possible. School projects could include active participation such as workshops, performances, exhibitions, or educational exchanges.

Application Process

There are three ways to apply:

  1. By completing the online application form.
  2. By downloading the application form and sending it by email.
  3. By downloading the application and sending by post.

Applicants are expected to clearly outline how the project’s objectives will be achieved, as the Small Grants Committee assesses project viability.

Important Dates

This is a rolling grant programme, which means applicants could apply at any time. Results are typically given within one month of application submission.

However, The Japan Society is not currently accepting grant applications. This can change as they plan to resume in future, so you can check the website for updates.

Funding Range

Up to £1,000. Grants should generally not cover more than 50% of the total project budget.
