Classics for All

Classics for All supports state schools in the UK to introduce or develop the teaching of classic subjects. The programme specifically promotes subjects such as Latin, Greek, classical civilisation, and ancient history, with a focus on schools where Classics are not currently available, and aims to improve both student engagement and teaching capacity. Apply today to request funding for your school.

Eligible Organisations

State primary and secondary schools in the UK are able to apply to this scheme. Applications are also accepted from consortia or clusters of state schools and eligible educational partners, with priority given to schools in areas with little or no existing Classics provision, and all supported work must benefit young people aged 18 and under in state schools.

Suitable Projects

Eligible projects include establishing after-school Classics clubs, introducing Latin or Greek, developing new Classics departments, curriculum development and enrichment, cross-curricular approaches using classical content, and staff training or continuing professional development in Classics. However, funding does not support the continuation of existing work, permanent teaching staff costs, large-scale textbook purchases, projects benefiting independent schools, or work that has already taken place.

Application Process

Applicants are required to first complete an initial enquiry form via the Classics for All website. Following this, suitable applicants will be invited to complete a full application form, and schools may request an online meeting with the Classics for All team before applying by contacting [email protected] ahead of the relevant deadline.

Important Dates

Applications are assessed on termly deadlines:

  • Spring Term – 1 December
  • Easter Term – 1 March
  • Autumn Term – 1 June and 15 June
  • Additional deadline – 15 September.

Applications submitted after a deadline are held over for the following term, and June applications are processed in two windows (2–15 June and 16–30 June).

Funding Range

Classics for All typically awards between £1,000 and £10,000 per project, offers between 20 and 30 grants annually, and may fund projects lasting up to three years. In some cases up to 100% of project costs may be covered, although partnership projects may require additional financial or in-kind contributions.
