Charles and Elsie Sykes Trust

A privately funded Trust, the Charles and Elsie Sykes Trust is aimed at supporting organisations and communities in the Yorkshire area.

Eligible Organisations

The following organisations may apply:

  • Registered charities
  • Education or health organisations
  • Hospitals or medical research organisations

Schools, further education providers, third sector groups, and community groups like playgroups, cadets, scouts, guides, and churches may also apply. All applicants must run outreach projects, and most beneficiaries should be in Yorkshire.

Suitable Projects

Although there is limited detail, projects must be outreach based and not maintenance focused. The Trust supports work that helps young people, older people, and vulnerable groups through welfare or medical projects. Maintenance, capital works, and internal-only projects are not supported.

Application Process

Applications can be made by contacting the Trust directly, with further details on the website. Applicants must complete an online form and upload accounts, a Trust checklist, and required documents. Applications are reviewed by a subcommittee before going to the full Trustee meeting.

Important Dates

Trustees meet in March, June, September, and December. Application deadlines are the last Monday of January, April, July, and October. Decisions are shared by the end of the month after each meeting.

Funding Range

Recent grants have ranged from £1,000 to £77,500, based on project size and impact. Most awards are smaller and focus on clear community benefit.
