British Ecological Society
The British Ecological Society has announced it will be awarding up to £2,000 through its Outreach and Engagement Grants programme to support activities that engage public audiences with ecological science.
Eligible Organisations
Grants are available to both individuals and organisations, including (but not limited to) schools, libraries, museums, community groups, society members and researchers. Applications are open without geographical restriction.
Suitable Projects
The purpose of the project should be to reach a wider audience and go beyond that of the academic curriculum. The British Ecological Society wants to see projects that:
- Helps to develop a better understanding of the science
- Stimulates discussion and inspires people of all ages to learn about and take interest in ecology
- Develops communication skills in ecology
- Demonstrates direct evidence of interaction with audiences
They do not fund:
- Staff salaries
- The purchase of equipment, unless it makes up a vital part of the application
- Projects aimed solely at delivering curriculum to school children
However, school-based projects may be supported if they include significant outreach beyond the classroom, such as ecology fairs, public exhibitions, or community-facing events, and projects may take place through in-person, digital, or physical resource formats aligned with BES aims.
