Chantry High School add New Shade Sails

It was a fantastic experience to install a series of Maxima Shade Sails at Chantry High School near Ipswich. The school building was already very colourful so we were keen to come up with an equally striking design.

Project Specification

  • Product: Maxima Sail™
  • Size: 10000mm x 10000mm
  • Steelwork:
    • Squirrel Grey - RAL NO. 7000

  • Fabric:
    • Aniseed

    • Mandarin

    • Raspberry

    • Lagoon Blue

With such a vibrant colour scheme already in place, the colourful shade sails complimented the building beautifully. Choosing steelwork in Grey (RAL 7000) and fabric in Aniseed, Mandarin, Raspberry and Lagoon, meant nothing felt out of place and this 10,000mm x 10,000mm shaded area became a beautiful addition to the school.

The children of Chantry High School now have a nice new area to sit and socialise no matter what the weather! The courtyard area has been completed with this new addition.

The Benefits of Eating Outdoors and What Schools Can Do To Facilitate Alfresco Dining

There is a lot of research that indicates the advantages of spending time outdoors; easing heart rate, blood pressure, stress hormones and muscle tension. It can even brighten your mood. Improvements in attention, memory and concentration have also been proved.

How does this effect children in school? Well, being indoors for a large amount of the day is linked to increased anxiety and depression. Couple this with the allure of computer games and social media at home and you can see how imperative it is to offer children as many opportunities to be outdoors during the school day as possible.

Spending time outdoors contributes to Vitamin D levels (an important hormone that helps to protect against a collection of diseases such as osteoporosis, depression, heart attacks and stroke). It is stated in studies that many of us do not get enough of this important vitamin, so more time outside is key to help deal with this deficiency.

With the longest break in the school day being the lunch break, a good resolution is alfresco dining. More and more schools are adding value to their outdoor areas, adding outdoor dining spaces, with canopies, shade sails, umbrellas and even enclosed outdoor dining rooms. With rising pupil numbers, this is a solution to the increased pressure that existing dining rooms come under as schools grow.

Continue reading our article to explore how schools can tackle this issue and allow their pupils to spend more time outdoors.

The Maxima Shade Sail can be used in so many different places to offer a creative and effective shelter. Because of their fun style and flexible sizing you can often find them in performance areas, outdoor classrooms, play areas and plazas.

The sails themselves are made from either Shade Cloth or PVC fabrics and come in a variety of colours (see our full colours range here). If you would like to see more installation like this please take a look at the images in our gallery.
