St Oswald’s RC Primary School contacted us because they needed shelter for their small gated play area and we designed this Maxima Umbrella to their exact specifications from the photographs and dimension they supplied. Now the children can play outside whatever the weather as the waterproof tensioned fabric structure keeps the play area dry in bad weather and creates a cool, shaded space on sunny days.

How rising intake figures are impacting schools and how they can use shelters to combat this issue

As we know, the school-age population has been growing. The count of five to ten year old pupils in primary schools increased by 446,000 (13%) between 2010 and 2016.

The Department for Education has the task to create the 420,000 new school places that are needed between 2016 and 2021 and there are many ways that this can be completed. New schools are being constructed, free schools are being funded and existing schools are obtaining capital funding to maintain, enhance and extend facilities. With capital being overstretched, one way that schools are using this capital funding is to make the most of their outside space. Whether to build more classrooms or to add sheltered spaces which can have no end of different uses.
