Shade Sails at Milton Park Primary School Portsmouth
Anthracite Grey - RAL NO. 7016
A large curved roof shelter was installed in the quad area, measuring a total of 15000mm X 15000mm. The Motiva Duo covers a serving pod added to the space, as well as several wooden benches. The anthracite grey steelwork gives the shelter a modern look, which works perfectly with the surrounding buildings. The opal polycarbonate roofing also allows some sunlight through while protecting against UV rays.
There is a lot of research that proves the merits of spending time outdoors; alleviating heart rate, blood pressure, stress hormones and muscle tension. It can also lift your mood. developments in attention, memory and concentration have also been attested.
How does this impact children in school? Well, being indoors for the majority of the day is linked to increased anxiety and depression. Couple this with the call of computer games and social media at home and you can see how essential it is to offer children as many opportunities to be outdoors during the school day as possible.
Spending time outdoors increases Vitamin D levels (an important hormone that helps to protect against a variety of diseases such as osteoporosis, depression, heart attacks and stroke). It is presented in research that many of us do not get an adequate amount of this important vitamin, so more time outside is pivotal to help manage this deficiency.
With the longest break in the school day being the lunch break, a good resolution is alfresco dining. More and more schools are enhancing their outdoor areas, adding outdoor dining spaces, with canopies, shade sails, umbrellas and even enclosed outdoor dining rooms. With increasing pupil numbers, this is a solution to the increased pressure that existing dining rooms come under as schools grow.
Continue reading our blog post to discover how schools can resolve this problem and encourage their students to spend more time outside.
Lunchtimes at Chesham Grammar School are now a better, smoother experience for everyone. The queues in the existing dining hall are reduced as the students can choose to eat from the outside serving pod. They can then enjoy their food under the canopy, no matter the weather conditions.
This once unused space has now become a popular area at break times and is loved by the staff and students. In fact, the school are so happy with the canopy they rated A&S Landscape five out of five stars for their work.
More and more schools are choosing to add outside dining areas and A&S Landscape has successfully completed many of these projects.
