A&S Landscape worked with the academy to design and install the two Motiva Linear canopies. One was placed in the middle of the school, the other covers a play area. Both canopies feature a Buckingham Green colour on the steelwork, which works perfectly with the surrounding buildings. Opal roofing is also featured on both canopies, which protects the pupils from harmful UV rays while allowing some sunlight through.
These two canopies also feature integrated gutters and downpipes, which effectively manages the rainwater. This means the academy can enjoy the benefits of the shelters for years to come.
Play is the quintessence of childhood, a time when children are well and inarguably being themselves, but for a lot of children the chance to play outdoors, enjoying physical activity and fresh air, is restricted. Today’s generation of children aged 4-11 years spend a lot of hours playing computer games, on iPads and watching TV and so this precious period of activity is more critical than ever to counter long hours indoors in front of a screen. Astonishing recent research show that a third of children play outside for half an hour or less in a normal day. That’s less time outdoors than prison inmates get! Of the 1,000 UK families who took part in the survey, 82% blamed the unreliable British weather.

The two shelters give the Burntstump Seely Academy pupils a space to relax in the fresh air, which will have a positive impact on the entire school. The pupils will arrive at their afternoon lessons refreshed from spending time outside, ready to learn. The teachers now also have access to an alternative learning environment, as they can hold lessons outside underneath the shelters. What’s more, is that parents can wait under a sheltered space for their children when the weather is poor too.
A&S Landscape not only offer straight roof canopies but also curved and waved designs too. These structures can be used as playground shelters, dining area canopies, covered walkways and much more. Get in touch today on 01743 444100 or email us here.
