Maxima Sail™

Brent Knoll School in London say that they are “creating excellence in special education” Their setting is a brand new multi-million pound building. It was designed and built with the needs of young people with autism very much in mind. The specialist facilities are superb. It is the outdoor area which we love, smart creative design. They have installed all-weather areas, including sandpits, play frame equipment and a wonderful tiered water play area.

These great spaces are available to the children even in hot weather because they have added not one but seven shade sails to offer UV protection. A&S Landscape added five rectangular shade cloth sails over the water play area as well as two sails over the play area and sandpit area. All the sails were installed in matching Turquoise fabric to bring the areas together. The end result is a striking design.

How big of an issue is childhood obesity and how can this be combatted by teachers and parents

Children are largely not in control of the food they have or the exercise they take. On top of that, when they exercise, the respiratory implications and body weakness can result in embarrassment amongst their peers as they face difficulties moving. Nonetheless, it is important to endorse healthier eating, more exercise, and assist a child who lives with obesity in combating the depression, anxiety, stigma, and the health and academic implications linked with obesity, which is a task much more far-reaching than it first seems.

We can break down some of the solutions Dame Sally Davies details in her report: Time To Solve Childhood Obesity into three factors.

• Children need to play outdoors.

• Children need access to a healthy diet.

• Plans need to be put into action by schools, manufacturers, health services, town planners and politicians to create better opportunities for children to have access to outdoor play and healthy food regardless of their social-economic position.

Discover how we can achieve these goals and more over on our full article page.

The whole school building was so impressive that it was shortlisted for an architectural award. The most important customers, the children themselves, are very happy with their outside space. Enjoying the area even on the sunniest days of the year. The option to have time outdoors and enjoy different activities is particularly important to children with additional needs and at Brent Knoll School the options are almost endless. What a super school. We were delighted to help bring this very special vision to life.
